Sulapac won WorldStar packaging competition
Sulapac has won WorldStar Award with Kohinoor jewellery packaging by Finnish jewellery and silverware company Kultakeskus. The package was awarded with ScanStar earlier this year and now receives worldwide recognition from World Packaging Organization.
The jury commends the package for its elegance, ecological values and the innovation that allows the material to be used on existing production lines.
Luxury meets sustainability
Designer Ilkka Harju wanted to highlight the unique qualities of the Sulapac material in his design.
“The visible woodchips of the package create a 3D-effect which makes the look both exciting and natural. I wanted to make the most ecological package in the world to represent the source of the raw material, but also feel luxurious.”
New era, new materials
Kultakeskus aims to reduce plastic waste without compromising their high standards for quality.
“The award is an indication that you do not have to choose between luxury and sustainability. This is also a great milestone on our 100th anniversary year, when we are gazing into the next century where sustainable production is a key focus.” says Ilkka Ruohola, Chairman of Kultakeskus.
Sulapac is a Finnish material innovation, made of FSC-certified wood and natural binders. It has all the benefits of plastic, yet it biodegrades completely without the challenges brought by microplastic. Plastic manufacturers can use their existing machinery with the material, without the need to build new factories. 100% biodegradable packaging outperforms other sustainable alternatives in terms of barrier properties, fast biodegradation and unique look.
The WorldStar Competition is organized by World Packaging Organisation (WPO) and is considered the world championship competition of packaging industry. This year’s awards will be presented in Prague, Czech Republic, hosted by OBALOVÝ INSTITUT SYBA s.r.o. on 15 May 2019.
