Sulapac materials for extrusion are the sustainable alternative for PS and PP. They are also used to replace PLA, thanks to their excellent processability, fast biodegradation and unique, natural appearance.

We have a solution optimal for thin walled structures like straws and one which is ideal for more sturdy items such as pipes, tubes, plant support sticks and balloon sticks. A great usage example of this sustainable extrusion material is the cosmetic pencil by Schwan Cosmetics.

FLOW 1.7

Beautiful material for eco-friendly straws

Sulapac Flow 1.7 is a sustainable material for extrusion with outstanding functional properties and beautiful natural appearance.  It is ideal for thin-walled structures like straws. The material has been developed to tackle the global plastic waste problem urged by the fact that straws and other single-use items account for a major part of plastic pollution in the oceans.

Sulapac Flow contains 72% USDA certified bio-based content.1 It is safe for both people and the planet: the material is certified as industrially compostable by BPI and Seedling2 and leaves no permanent microplastic3 or toxic load behind4. Sulapac Flow 1.7 meets the EU and US FDA requirements for food contact materials5  and has been separately tested for PFAS.6

On top of that, the straws made of Sulapac Flow come with superior usability: they have been tested to last 24 hours without getting soggy and they add no unwanted flavour to your drink.

The main components are sustainably sourced biodegradable biopolymers and wood from industrial side streams. Sulapac Flow 1.7 is designed for mass-production with excellent processability.

1 USDA Certified Biobased Product label is a certification mark of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

2 The compostability has been tested up to the thickness of 910 μm according to BPI (ASTM D6400) and Seedling (EN 13423 & ASTM D6400). As the compostability is also dependent on the geometry of an item, it is the responsibility of the
manufacturer of the end product to ensure compliance with the regulations.

3 Relative biodegradation of 75,5% in 420 days in simulated marine environment test (ASTM D6691, 86°F / 30°C) using natural sea water. Not considered biodegradable in California.

4 Ecotoxicity and threshold values for heavy metals tested according to EN 13432.

5 Restrictions and specifications of use apply, please refer to relevant Declaration of Compliance for further information.

6 Straw made of Sulapac Flow 1.7 has been tested for per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) by an independent laboratory (ISO/IEC 17025 certified) based on CEN/TS 15968 test method; No PFAS compounds were detected.
